The &#8220;deep purple&#8221; iPhone <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/apple-iphone-14-pro-max-deep-purple\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wasn&#8217;t purple enough for me<\/a>, and I am still waiting for the <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/pink-iphone-y2k-barbiecore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hot pink Barbie iPhone of my dreams.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today, Samsung entered the ring. Leaks of its new <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/deals\/samsung-galaxy-s23-price-release-date-preorder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Samsung Galaxy S23<\/a> line speculated about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sammobile.com\/news\/exclusive-galaxy-s23-colors-seen-in-latest-leak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four new colors:<\/a> Phantom Black, Botanic Green, Cotton Flower, and Misty Lilac. And those the are the kind of names that come to play. Just by reading them, I have a pretty good idea of what they look like. I may not be a color expert, but I am a color <em>enthusiast<\/em>, and I have feedback.<\/p>\n<p>The Phantom Black and Cream are accurate enough, but Lavender and Green have it coming. <\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s look at the &#8220;lavender&#8221; first, which more of a pink than a purple and more of a lilac than a lavender (lilac flowers are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yourindoorherbs.com\/lavender-or-lilac-the-differences-with-pictures\/#:~:text=Lilac%20fragrance%20is%20way%20more,the%20purple%20ones%20of%20lavender.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">softer and more pink<\/a> than lavender flowers which are more of a true purple). I tried to match Pantone colors to the official photo of the S23 and found that, at its lightest, Samsung&#8217;s idea of &#8220;Lavender&#8221; a bit grey. And remarkably, even though the color green applies to a least a hundred shades, it barely applies to this one. Grey? Charcoal? Maybe. The Pantone color I found to match the top is called &#8220;Sedona Sage,&#8221; which I think is a stretch but would be a major upgrade from &#8220;green.&#8221; Someone at Samsung was dead asleep at the wheel during this conference call. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/prakharkhanna\/2023\/02\/01\/the-samsung-galaxy-s23-series-is-gorgeous-despite-its-muted-colors\/?sh=13a1c389647a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forbes headline<\/a> read &#8220;The Samsung Galaxy S23 Series is gorgeous, despite its muted colors&#8221; and a Twitter user racked up more than 3,500 likes bemoaning Samsung&#8217;s perception of color and lame names.
