TL;DR: As of Nov. 12, you can get the Square Off: World’s Smartest Chessboard for just $424.99 instead of $449 — that’s a 5% discount.
Shopping for a board gamer or chess lover this year? You may be able to give them the ultimate gift. Square Off is a smart chessboard that lets users play with real pieces against opponents online, but there’s a lot more to it. Whether you’re shopping for a chess fanatic or want to splurge on a fun family activity in time for the holidays, the Square Off Grand Kingdom Set is on sale for $424.99 (reg. $449).
A chessboard that plays you
Chess has been around for over 1,400 years. There may not be that many ways to keep the game feeling fresh. That is, unless you play the board itself. If you’ve squared off against a chess fanatic, you may not have found it very fun, even if they reveled in defeating you. Square Off lets players use a real chessboard against players online. And when the online player makes a move, the board moves their piece, too. Just watch this video to see it in action.
This Kickstarter– and Indiegogo-funded board is a new twist on familiar ways to play chess. Play opponents online, or follow in the footsteps of Kasparov and Deep Blue and face off against the computer. Square Off has 20 AI difficulty levels to play against, and it moves pieces on its own. After a game against the computer or a real player, you can set up a game analysis through the Square Off app. Practice as long as you want, but the battery may only last for up to 15 games before it needs a recharge. But even without a charge, this set is still a beautiful rosewood-colored chessboard.
A new way to enjoy an old game
Whether you’re shopping for a chess lover, planning some family fun, or looking for a new way to connect over long distances, a smart chess set may be the missing piece you’re looking for. For a limited time, get the Square Off smart chessboard on sale for $424.99 (reg. $449).
