PREORDER: The new PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset is set for release on Feb. 22 from PlayStation Direct for $549.99. You can pre-order now through the PlayStation Direct retail storefront.
The PlayStation VR2 is nearly here, over six years since Sony debuted its predecessor, the original PlayStation VR.
The VR landscape has changed significantly in that time, with a variety of headsets introduced over the years. Now, Sony is about to release the successor to its first-ever console-based VR hardware on Feb. 22, and you can pre-order your own right now.
The PlayStation VR2 is only available to preorder via the PlayStation Direct store right now. It’s available ahead of its release next week, with the standalone headset retailing for $549, or $599 with the inclusion of the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle. Keep in mind that you’re limited to just one preorder per household.
Sony has stated that during the “official launch phase” PlayStation Direct will be the only retailer you can purchase the headset from. It hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but the headset will likely become available to purchase at all the “regular” retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and the like going forward.
According to Mashable reviewer Alex Perry, the PlayStation VR2 is a “joy to use,” praising games like Beat Saber, Rez Infinite, and No Man’s Sky as “great games that are definitely worth experiencing both in and out of VR.” Perry did mention, however, that Horizon Call of the Mountain didn’t feel like the must-play it should be to help sell the expensive headset to gamers with high standards.
If you’re looking to be among the first to try out the newest PlayStation VR experience, it’s a good time to go ahead and claim one while they’re still available.
