‘Paint’ trailer: A Bob Ross-coded film that isn’t actually about Bob Ross

Don’t be fooled by the perm, this film isn’t actually about Bob Ross.

Owen Wilson stars in Paint as a fictional painter called Carl Nargle, who has his own art show that’s taking Vermont by storm. While Paint‘s trailer is heavily Bob Ross-coded, from the hair to the lullaby-like voice to the unmatched peace of painting a tree with the most lovable guy on TV, the film’s events are entirely fictional and merely inspired by Ross’ character.

Paint follows Nargle’s success, that’s quickly challenged by a new painter called Ambrosia (Ciara Renée). It’s a battle of brushstrokes and television, as the pair grapple with winning the crown for best comfort human.

Paint also stars Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Lusia Strus, Stephen Root, and Lucy Freyer.

Paint releases in theaters on April 7.
