How Samsung’s new Galaxy Book3 laptops compare to last year’s models

Samsung doesn’t just make phones, folks.

At its Galaxy Unpacked livestream on Wednesday, Samsung revealed a gang of new devices, most notably the Galaxy S23 line of smartphones. That’s all well and good, but those weren’t the only products shown at Unpacked this year. Samsung also used it as an opportunity to bring us three new Galaxy Book laptops, all of which seem like pretty nifty upgrades over last year’s models.

Oh, and one of them is brand new. Let’s get into it. Here’s how this year’s Galaxy Books compare to the 2022 models.

Galaxy Book3 Pro vs. Book2 Pro specs and price

First up is the new Galaxy Book3 Pro, which is the most like a standard Windows laptop of any of them. It starts at $1,450.

Last year, the Galaxy Book2 Pro came in 13- and 15-inch models. Both have been bumped up an inch this year, with the Book3 Pro coming in 14- and 16-inch configurations. If that wasn’t enough, the screen resolution has been greatly improved, from 1080p to 1800p. Trust me, that’s a lot sharper. You’ll also get enhanced performance from 13th gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors.

The other internal specs have also gotten a bit of a facelift. There are new 32GB RAM and 1TB storage options this year (the Book2 Pro topped out at 16GB and 512GB, respectively), which is always nice. The port situation has also improved, as Samsung has doubled the amount of Thunderbolt 4 ports from one to two. There’s also a USB type-A port, an HDMI port, and a microSD slot.

It may not be the most flashy of the three new laptops, but the Galaxy Book3 Pro at least brings some heat compared to last year.

Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 vs. Book2 Pro 360 specs and price

Next up is a refreshed version of Samsung’s 2-in-1 hybrid, the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360. Yes, that name is kind of a mouthful, but there’s nothing we can do about that. Its starting price is $1,900.

Like the Book3 Pro, the size has been bumped up an inch, from 15 to 16 inches. Also like the Book3 Pro, the resolution has gotten the same boost: 1080p to 1800p. On the inside, there’s a new 32GB RAM option (up from 16 a year ago), but storage is still capped at 1TB. The port selection is also identical to the Book3 Pro, with the addition of an optional nano SIM slot.

Why does it need a nano SIM slot, you ask? This year’s Galaxy Book3 Pro can connect to 5G networks, that’s why! That new addition should make it ideal for people who need to get a lot of work done on the go.

Galaxy Book3 Ultra specs and price

Last but not least is the only truly new product Samsung showed off, the Galaxy Book3 Ultra. And folks, it’s a doozy, coming in at a starting price of $2,400.

Put simply, this is a super high-powered laptop for professionals. Its 16-inch, 1800p display should look appropriately sharp, while its 13th gen Intel Core i7 or i9 processors will keep it humming. What’s really wild is that it can come with an Nvidia Geforce RTX 4050 or 4070 graphics card. Those are both high-end PC gaming cards, but they can also come in handy for professional tasks.

RAM and storage go up to 32GB and 1TB, respectively. It’s got a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports and a USB type-A port, along with HDMI 2.0 and a microSD slot. Oh, and it comes in at only 3.9lbs, making it pretty lightweight considering what’s under the hood.
