How to save disappearing messages on Whatsapp

WhatsApp’s disappearing message feature, which allows texts to literally vanish after a set period of time, introduced a caveat earlier this year: “Keep in Chat”.

This feature essentially allows people to save certain disappearing messages, with the only catch being that the sender has final approval over whether a message can be kept. Rolled out in April, the addition to the much-requested privacy setting is available in “limited countries” so far.

If you want to tap into this “sender superpower” (Meta’s words), here’s how to do it.

Total Time

  • 2 minutes.
What You Need

  • Smartphone
  • WhatsApp app

Step 1:
In your WhatsApp thread, press and hold down on the message you want to send.

Step 2:
Select “Keep”.

As long as the duration time hasn’t passed, you can save a message.

Step 3:
If you’re the sender, approve or “unkeep”.

If you sent it, text saving is your final say. But if you’re not and you’re trying to save, the sender of the message will be given a notification. Then, they can decide whether or not to “unkeep” said message.

Step 4:
Access your kept messages anytime in the “Kept” folder.
