Amongst the “black hole of sadness” that is Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3., you might hear a familiar but unexpected voice: Pete Davidson.
Writer/director James Gunn posted on Twitter about the comedian, former Saturday Night Live favourite, and Bupkis star’s covert cameo in the MCU film on Monday. No, it wasn’t Blurp.
“My friend Pete not only voiced but actually came to visit us in Atlanta for a day and played Phlektik on set,” Gunn’s post reads, with photos showing Davidson alongside Guardians stars Chris Pratt (Peter “Star-Lord” Quill), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis).
Phlektik is an alien guard of the film’s villain, The High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), the mad scientist who created Rocket Racoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper). Davidson has previously worked with Gunn on the DC side of things, playing Blackguard in 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
Gunn also noted he voiced the character of blob Lambshank in the film. “I voiced the beautiful Lambshank. I don’t want to show her here because she’s too gorgeous and I don’t want folks to feel bad about themselves in comparison.”
It’s not the only cameo you might have heard in Guardians Vol. 3 either. Bodies, Bodies, Bodies and Borat Subsequent Movie Film‘s Maria Bakalova near stole the show as Cosmo the Spacedog and Dead to Me‘s Linda Cardellini plays Rocket’s pal from the past Lylla the Otter.
