Following a week-long break, Stephen Colbert wasted no time on Monday’s Late Show catching up on the headlines he’d missed. And there was a big one he couldn’t wait to discuss.
“We have been off the air for a week,” Colbert says in the clip above. “You know who else has? Tucker Carlson. The difference is, I’m allowed back on.”
Over the next five minutes, Colbert discusses everything from the mystery of Carlson’s abrupt dismissal from Fox News (“You can read all about it in Nancy Drew and the Case of Why Didn’t This Happen Years Ago?”) to the revelation that he’d called a Fox exec the C-word (“For those who don’t know what word I’m talking about, he called his boss a See You Next Tuesday, or in this case a See You Never, Tucker.”)
Colbert rounds things out by talking about what Carlson might do next, including reports of a job offer from Russia State Media. “That’s got to be a tempting offer. Up until now, he’s been representing Russia pro bono.”
